Google Introduces Limited Chat Personalization in Gemini, Falling Behind Anthropic and OpenAI in Memory Capabilities

Google is enhancing its Gemini app to compete with leaders Anthropic and OpenAI by focusing on personalization and user data control. The rollout, initially in select countries, introduces “Personal Context,” allowing the app to tailor responses based on past interactions. Unlike competitors, users can’t edit or delete preferences, but they can disable Personal Context whenever desired. New features, such as Temporary Chat, enable one-off conversations without affecting personalization. Users also gain more control over their data, with options to prevent usage in future model training. These updates come a year after similar features were introduced by competitors, marking a crucial phase in the AI landscape where memory, customization, and user control are key battlegrounds.
