Google is Said to Be Ending Its Collaboration with Scale AI

Meta’s significant investment in Scale AI, acquiring a 49% stake for $14.3 billion, is raising concerns among Scale’s customers, leading some to reconsider their partnerships. Reports indicate that Google had intended to spend $200 million on Scale this year but is now exploring options with competitors and possibly severing ties. Similarly, Microsoft is reportedly scaling back its engagements, and while OpenAI initially decided to distance itself from Scale, its CFO confirmed ongoing collaboration as one of multiple vendors. Scale serves a diverse clientele, including self-driving car companies and the U.S. government, primarily focusing on generative AI firms needing specialized data annotation for model training. Despite these circumstances, Scale maintains that its business is robust and will continue to operate independently while protecting customer data.
