Google is testing a new feature called “Search Live,” introduced during I/O 2025 and powered by Project Astra. This feature enables real-time conversations with Google and is accessible via a waveform icon beneath the Search bar, replacing the previous Google Lens shortcut. Users can also initiate Search Live through a new circular button during AI Mode interactions. The interface offers light and dark themes, a new ‘G’ logo, and options to “Mute” or obtain a “Transcript.” However, the transcript feature currently redirects to the AI text chat instead of providing live captions. After queries, users see a carousel of sources used for the answers, and Google can ask follow-up questions for clarification. Users can continue conversations even after exiting the app, similar to how Gemini Live initially rolled out. While the camera feature for video streaming is not yet available, Search Live is now rolling out to Google app users on both Android and iOS.
