Google is enhancing its YouTube search experience by introducing AI-generated results, similar to its web search transformation toward a zero-click approach. Premium subscribers can preview an AI results carousel, showcasing relevant videos and summaries for specific searches. This feature, which displays at the top of the results page, allows users to play videos directly from the carousel while extracting key information relevant to their queries, potentially reducing the need to watch the actual videos.
Currently in testing and limited to YouTube Premium users, this opt-in feature may eventually dominate search results, similar to the AI Overviews seen in web searches. This shift could limit user interaction with content creators, as viewers may opt to explore curated AI summaries rather than engage with videos directly. Consequently, channels might struggle to grow and generate revenue, as Google integrates their content into AI-generated features like Gemini, further altering the landscape of video consumption on the platform.
