Google has launched its advanced AI-powered search experience, ‘AI Mode,’ in India, marking its first international rollout after being available in the US. Using Gemini 2.5 technology, it enables users to ask complex questions and receive detailed, AI-generated answers. Currently accessible through the Google app and desktop, it supports English, with more Indian languages expected soon. AI Mode utilizes a method called query fan-out, breaking down questions into smaller components and conducting multiple searches to provide comprehensive responses, supplemented by real-time data and the Knowledge Graph.
Additionally, it supports multimodal input, allowing users to interact via text, voice, or images, capitalizing on India’s high usage of voice and visual searches. While Google is optimistic about AI Mode, it views it as experimental, ensuring that less confident responses revert to regular search results. Persistent challenges have arisen, including controversies over the accuracy of AI-generated content and concerns over its impact on organic search traffic.
