Google has partnered with Reliance Jio to provide free 18-month subscriptions to its Gemini AI Pro service, valued at around USD 396, to over 500 million users in India. This strategic move intensifies the competition among global AI companies in the rapidly growing Indian market, which boasts over 500 million internet users and 377 million Gen Z individuals. Previously, OpenAI launched free memberships for its ChatGPT Go product, while Perplexity teamed up with Bharti Airtel to offer its services at no cost to 360 million users. India’s vast digital demographic and increasing consumer spending make it a vital battleground for tech giants. Google’s initiative aims to democratize AI in India, as emphasized by CEO Sundar Pichai. The partnerships with India’s leading telecom operators provide these companies a massive outreach, positioning them effectively in the landscape of AI services and enhancing user acquisition efforts significantly.
