Google Pauses AI-Driven “Ask Photos” Feature Indefinitely

admin

Google has temporarily halted the rollout of its “Ask Photos” feature in the Google Photos app, a search tool utilizing the Gemini AI model. Announced at last year’s I/O conference, it allows users to search for photos using natural language queries instead of standard keywords. While the feature began limited testing last September, the rollout was suspended due to performance issues, particularly in speed and result quality. Jamie Aspinall, a Product Manager at Google Photos, noted that user feedback indicated the AI search was slower than traditional methods and often lacked clarity. He assured that improvements were underway, with an enhanced version expected in two weeks that would offer faster, more accurate searches. This setback follows previous instances where Google paused AI features due to inaccuracies. Alongside this, a new search functionality has been introduced, allowing users to perform exact-match searches using quotation marks.
