Google Provides Free Gemini AI Training for Every U.S. Educator: A Commitment to 6 Million Teachers

Google, in partnership with ISTE+ASCD, has launched a groundbreaking free three-year AI training program for all six million U.S. educators, titled the “largest AI teacher initiative.” This program includes practical modules on Google’s Gemini and NotebookLM tools, offering formal micro-credential badges upon completion. The initiative aims to enhance AI literacy among teachers, ultimately benefiting over 74 million students. Richard Culatta, CEO of ISTE+ASCD, emphasized the urgent need for structured AI training to ensure teachers can effectively guide their students. Unlike traditional certifications, this program focuses on incremental learning, making it more accessible. Google’s strategy targets educators directly, contrasting with competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic, who focus on higher education. By fostering AI fluency among teachers, Google aims to shape how students engage with AI tools, ensuring they’re prepared to use them as learning aids rather than distractions. Registration is now open, with modules launching soon on Google’s training page.
