Google Relaunches AI-Enhanced ‘Ask Photos’ Search with a Speed Boost

Google is reintroducing its AI-powered “Ask Photos” search tool in Google Photos after a temporary pause. The tool, driven by Google’s Gemini AI models, allows users to ask complex questions to find specific photos. However, earlier this month, a member of the Google Photos team acknowledged that the feature needed improvements in latency, quality, and user experience. In response to feedback, Google has optimized the tool to return results more quickly for simple searches, such as “beach” or “dogs,” while the Gemini models work in the background for more complex queries. Additionally, the feature is now expanding beyond early access and will be available to a broader group of eligible users in the US.
