Google Takes on Trademark Challenge in AI Video Tool Arena

Autodesk has filed a lawsuit against Google, claiming that the tech giant infringed on its “Flow” trademark for AI-powered software. Autodesk asserts that it has used the “Flow” name for its media and entertainment software since September 2022, while Google launched its own Flow software in May 2025, targeting the same industries. The plaintiff argues that this has caused consumer confusion and harm, seeking both compensatory and punitive damages. Autodesk emphasizes its commitment to protecting innovation and maintaining fair competition. The Autodesk Flow platform serves as a production hub for creators, offering updated features for content organization, collaboration, and accessibility for educators and students. In contrast, Google positions its Flow tool as an AI filmmaking aid for storytellers. Interestingly, Google previously won a trademark lawsuit concerning its YouTube Shorts platform, demonstrating its ability to defend against trademark claims in similar contexts.
