Google Tests Compact Gemini Overlay for Enhanced Tablet Accessibility

Share

Google is updating the UI of the Gemini app on Android tablets, introducing a narrower overlay that now occupies one-third of the screen width, down from two-thirds. This change, anchored to the right side, enhances ease of access and aligns with the app’s web version. The update is currently part of a gradual server-side rollout, applying only to the standard Gemini experience—not the Gemini Live version. Users will still find the text box centered for easier typing, although left-hand users might face some inconvenience as the overlay cannot be moved to the left. While the new UI is still being slowly introduced, only a few users have reported seeing the update so far. There are indications that a similar compact overlay may be in development for Gemini Live. For those who spot the update, sharing feedback in the comments is encouraged.
