Google is transforming its Google Translate app with new AI-powered features, positioning itself against competitors like Duolingo. The highlight is the innovative Practice Mode, designed to gamify language learning. Initially available for French and Spanish, this feature personalizes lessons based on user proficiency levels—ranging from Just Starting to Advanced. Users can select practical scenarios like greetings, dining, and directions, and even create custom practice sessions focused on speaking or listening.
In addition to these updates, Google is redesigning the user interface. The voice input button will be relocated for easier access, and new icons for microphone, handwriting, and paste will enhance usability. Notably, users will see a model picker on the results page, offering a choice between a Fast model for quick translations and an Advanced model optimized for contextually accurate translations. Currently, the Advanced model supports English–French and English–Spanish. These enhancements aim to revolutionize the translation experience, making it more interactive and user-friendly.
