Google has integrated its customizable AI assistant, Gems, into Workspace apps like Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, and Gmail, streamlining user workflows. Gems, tailored for specific tasks, eliminate the need for the standalone Gemini app. These personalized chatbots assist with recurring tasks such as content creation and exam preparation, utilizing context from uploaded documents or pre-built options for coding and sales.
Although users can’t create Gems directly within Workspace, they can access creation links in the side panel. Crafted Gems will support Workspace features like @-mentions and file access, enhancing their functionality. This integration aims to transform the user experience, making Gems feel more like a genuine assistant rather than a conventional chatbot.
The update, expected to roll out over the next 15 days, will allow all available Gems to appear in the Workspace side panel for users on Rapid and Scheduled domains. Access to these tailored tools will enhance productivity for Workspace users.
