Google is enhancing its fight against digital fraud in India with new features for Pixel 9 smartphones. This includes on-device scam detection that analyzes active calls for suspicious behavior without transmitting audio off-device. Amidst a significant rise in digital payment fraud, which constituted over half of reported bank fraud in 2024, Google’s initiative comes at a crucial time. The Reserve Bank of India reported ₹5.2 billion in losses from digital fraud cases in 2024, with costs escalating further in 2025. Additionally, Google is pilot testing screen-sharing protection in financial apps like Paytm and Google Pay to prevent scammers from stealing sensitive information. While current features focus on Pixel 9 and English users, Google aims to extend support across more Android devices. Continually tackling fraud, Google also utilizes Play Protect and runs campaigns like DigiKavach, maximizing user awareness in India’s extensive smartphone market.
