Google Unveils Sneak Peek of Android XR Smart Glasses Featuring Gemini Technology

Google LLC is set to launch smart glasses powered by its Android XR operating system, initially announced during the Google I/O event in May. Partnering with eyewear brands Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, Google plans to introduce two models: one with the Gemini AI assistant and another with a built-in display for an enhanced user experience. The audio-only version can assist users in real-time, translating signs or offering information on photographed objects, while the advanced model will provide navigation and repair guides. Competing with Meta Platforms’ recently launched Ray-Ban smart glasses, Google’s offerings are expected to follow suit with potential gesture-control accessories, leveraging technology from its acquisition of Fitbit. Additionally, Google is collaborating with XREAL on Project Aura, which features a processing module equipped with Qualcomm’s XR Gen 2 Plus chip. The first smart glasses are expected next year alongside updates to Android XR, including a new SDK for developers.
