Government Highlights Advancements in TB and Diabetes Diagnosis through AI-Enhanced Tools

The Indian government is harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance public health services, focusing on tuberculosis and diabetes. Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav announced that AIIMS Delhi, PGIMER Chandigarh, and AIIMS Rishikesh are designated ‘Centres of Excellence’ for AI development in healthcare. Key AI solutions include the Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) integrated into e-Sanjeevani and the MadhuNetrAI for Diabetic Retinopathy detection, which has served over 14,000 retinal images across 38 facilities in 11 states. The CATB AI initiative is screening for pulmonary TB and has increased detection rates by 12-16%. From March 2023 to November 2025, the CATB has screened 162,000 individuals. The Ministry is committed to maintaining strict adherence to AI governance guidelines and ethical standards to ensure operational reliability in healthcare services. These initiatives are set to transform the healthcare landscape, improving outcomes efficiently through innovative technology solutions.
