The latest Windows 11 Insider Preview Build (26220.7535, KB5072046) introduces a new Group Policy (RemoveMicrosoftCopilotApp), allowing admins to uninstall the free Microsoft Copilot app, but only under specific conditions. This feature is targeted towards Enterprise, Pro, and EDU users, and can only be applied if the app has not been used in the last 28 days. Notably, subscribers of paid Microsoft 365 Copilot will still retain the app, as some Copilot functions are permanent. The update also addresses ongoing issues, including crashing File Explorer and problems with the Settings app. Despite user outcry regarding Microsoft’s AI initiatives, the company has not eliminated Copilot features entirely, indicating that recent changes are primarily for app management rather than an effort to appease users.
