Grok App Continues to Create Sexualized AI Deepfake Images for Subscribers

Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, has faced significant backlash regarding its AI image generation tool, Grok, which has been restricted following incidents of creating sexualized deepfakes. Now available only to paying customers, Grok is banned from generating sexualized images on the X platform, although its standalone app reportedly still allows users to create nonconsensual images.

Controversy arose as Grok was reportedly used to create inappropriate images of public figures, prompting urgent inquiries from the UK’s communications regulator, Ofcom. The European Commission is investigating the matter, labeling the generated content as “illegal” and “disgusting,” while the UK’s Internet Watch Foundation is assessing reports related to Grok.

In response, the UK government is drafting legislation to criminalize nudification tools, with severe penalties for suppliers. Musk has warned that users generating illegal content with Grok will face dire consequences, yet the app continues to operate outside X, allowing the creation of contentious images.
