Groundbreaking AI Tool Claims Ability to Outsmart University Proctoring Systems and Independently Answer Questions

BlackTom AI: A Controversial Tool at Ohio State

The BlackTom AI application claims to assist students at Ohio State University by providing answers for over 800 courses, bypassing proctored exams. Developed in Singapore in 2022, this AI tool offers multiple subscription tiers, ranging from free to $200 monthly. Its features include simulating human typing and mouse movements, making detection difficult during exams. Although blackTom describes itself as a “learning helper,” concerns about academic integrity have arisen.

Ohio State announced a shift from Proctorio to Honorlock for exam monitoring, despite limitations in detecting AI tools. BlackTom is fully compatible with Honorlock, allowing users to integrate it seamlessly. Recent updates introduced additional features and a refer-a-friend program using “Tom Coins” for discounts.

University officials emphasize the importance of academic honesty, urging students to adhere to institutional policies regarding AI usage in their studies.
