In Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, GS Caltex Corp. has integrated advanced artificial intelligence (AI) within its expansive 6 million square meter facility to optimize operations. Utilizing data from 200,000 sensors connected to 800,000 pieces of equipment, the plant has surpassed initial AI accuracy targets, achieving an 84.6% success rate in detecting anomalies in its polymer unit. Selected for the AI Autonomous Manufacturing Leading Project slated to run through 2028, GS Caltex aims to become a premier AI factory in South Korea. The plant’s machine learning operations (MLOps) framework enhances AI model training by linking lab and field data. With the implementation of an operation optimization platform (OOP), AI will enable real-time operational decisions, boosting overall productivity while significantly reducing annual carbon emissions. As part of national initiatives to promote AI in manufacturing, GS Caltex is positioned as a leader in the industry’s shift towards intelligent automation, aligning with goals to make Korea a top global AI powerhouse.
