Ahmedabad’s Groundbreaking AI Tool Enhances Narcotics Investigations
Gujarat police have launched Narit, an AI-driven tool transforming narcotics case investigations. By simply uploading a First Information Report (FIR), the system analyzes the case, identifies legal weaknesses, and suggests effective investigation strategies. Built on retrieval augmented generation (RAG) technology, Narit aims to reduce procedural lapses and acquittals under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Developed by the Western Railway police and a Mumbai-based AI startup, Narit provides real-time legal guidance, outlines necessary evidence, and predicts defense arguments based on high court and Supreme Court precedents. Superintendent of police Abhay Soni emphasizes the tool’s role in empowering all officers to conduct compliant investigations, thereby enhancing conviction rates. Trained on historical court rulings, Narit ensures precise legal adherence, aligning with the state government’s zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics crimes. This user-friendly system is set to revolutionize the approach to narcotics investigations in Gujarat.
