HMD Leverages AI Technology to Safeguard Against Nudity

HMD Mobile Devices (HMD) has launched the HMD Fuse, touted as the first smartphone specifically designed for children, equipped with an innovative AI protection tool, HarmBlock+. This technology blocks the filming, sending, or viewing of nude imagery across the camera, apps, and during live streams, ensuring a safer online experience for kids. Developed in collaboration with the UK-based online safety expert SafeToNet, HarmBlock+ is “the first protection tool children cannot bypass,” having been ethically trained on 22 million harmful images.

In addition to its AI capabilities, the HMD Fuse features traditional parental controls, enabling app management, usage limits, and location tracking, updated every 24 seconds. The device is designed to grow with the child, allowing parents to add suitable apps as their children mature. Currently exclusive to VodafoneThree in the UK, the HMD Fuse is aimed at enhancing children’s online safety while keeping parents involved. An introductory plan offers it for £33 per month over 36 months.
