Hollywood is protesting against the new AI video tool, Seedance 2.0, from China’s ByteDance, citing “blatant” copyright infringement. Launched recently for users of the Jianying app, it will soon be available on CapCut globally. This groundbreaking tool allows users to create videos by entering simple text prompts, but it has drawn sharp criticism for using real people’s likenesses and studios’ intellectual property without restrictions. The Motion Picture Association (MPA) has called for ByteDance to halt these infringing activities, asserting that the service violates copyright laws vital for protecting creators’ rights and supporting American jobs. Hollywood unions, including SAG-AFTRA, condemned Seedance 2.0 as a direct threat to creators worldwide. Additionally, Disney has initiated legal action against ByteDance for unauthorized use of its characters, highlighting concerns over intellectual property theft in the evolving landscape of AI technology.
