Google has integrated Gemini across its services, including Gmail, Chrome, and Workspace, making it seemingly unavoidable. Many users find Gemini distracting, especially when it provides unnecessary assistance, such as with basic tasks in Google Sheets. If you want to disable Gemini from your personal Workspace account, follow these steps:
1. In Gmail, click the cog icon, go to the General tab, and toggle off “Turn on smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet.”
2. To disable Workspace features, access the same settings in Gmail and manage smart feature settings.
Note: Disabling smart features will also turn off essential capabilities like spell check and email sorting. For work accounts, use the same steps, but understand that only admin can fully disable Gemini from Docs and Sheets. While it’s possible to selectively turn off certain features, Google’s design encourages users to keep Gemini enabled for a seamless experience.
