HTC Launches VIVE Eagle: A Featherweight AI Headset Powered by OpenAI and Gemini

HTC has launched the VIVE Eagle, a lightweight AI headset now available in Taiwan, weighing under 49 grams. It features a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera, integrated speakers, and an AI voice assistant using OpenAI’s GPT models and Google Gemini, allowing for voice-activated translations in 13 languages, reminders, and local tips. The device ensures data privacy with localized processing and anonymous external AI requests, indicated by an LED signaling active recording. With a 4.5-hour music playback and 36-hour standby, the $520 headset supports Zeiss solar lenses and comes in four colors, currently exclusive to Taiwan. Competing with Meta’s expanding lineup of AR glasses, such as the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, the VIVE Eagle positions HTC in a vital market amid rising privacy concerns. Unlike Meta, which stores recordings for AI training, HTC emphasizes user privacy, making this an essential consideration for tech-savvy consumers.
