A recent report from Billtrust highlights concerns among finance professionals about the risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI) in accounts receivable. Surveying 500 executives, it revealed that 82% are worried about AI misuse. Key recommendations include maintaining strong human oversight to ensure responsible AI deployment. The report cites alarming examples of AI-generated threats, such as sophisticated phishing emails that deceive experienced staff. Over 39% of respondents have encountered fraudulent communications, further eroding trust in AI systems. Although AI excels in speed and data analysis, human judgment remains crucial for contextual understanding. Almost half (46%) fear that AI-generated fraud may become too realistic to detect without robust human oversight. Many organizations lack adequate tracking of suspicious invoices, raising transparency issues. Billtrust emphasizes that the solution lies not in increasing human workload but in providing better tools to enhance value-creating activities, thereby ensuring accountability in AI deployment.
