I Prevail’s Eric Vanlerberghe on the ‘Slippery Slope’ of AI in Music: “At What Point Does Artistry End and Tools Begin?”

In a recent interview on the “Modern Wisdom” podcast, Eric Vanlerberghe, the vocalist of I PREVAIL, shared his concerns about the rise of artificial intelligence-generated music, which frequently appears on Billboard charts. He expressed apprehension about A.I. potentially overshadowing real musicians, particularly as A.I.-assisted artists gain substantial monthly listeners on platforms like Spotify. Vanlerberghe emphasized that while A.I. can enhance creativity, it raises significant ethical and economic challenges for human artists, especially regarding fair compensation from streaming services. He noted the blurred lines between traditional artistry and using advanced tools like pitch correction software. I PREVAIL recently released their album “Violent Nature,” marking a new chapter for the band, with Vanlerberghe taking on new vocal duties following Brian Burkheiser’s health issues. The band’s prominence continues to grow, highlighted by their participation in significant tours and Grammy nominations.
