I’m Frustrated by How AI Tools Like ChatGPT are Diminishing the Quality of Literature

Share

The rise of AI in writing has sparked controversy, especially in genres like self-published romance and fantasy—collectively known as “romantasy.” Recent incidents involving authors Lena McDonald and K.C. Crowne highlighted this issue when they were accused of incorporating AI-generated content into their novels. Readers expressed disappointment, questioning the authenticity of their work. In a survey, 45% of 1,200 authors admitted to using AI for various tasks, with over 25% employing it during the writing process. Critics argue that relying on AI diminishes creativity and originality, leading to clichéd narratives. As an aspiring novelist, I fear AI could undermine the essence of storytelling, with its potential to generate generic content rather than fostering unique, human-driven narratives. The future of literature hangs in the balance, as authors confront the choice between convenience and maintaining artistic integrity in their work. Ensuring quality storytelling relies on preserving human creativity in the writing process.
