Incorporating AI Tools into Coursework: Student Perspectives and Insights

“Speak Up!” is a weekly feature where The Tiger gathers student opinions on pressing campus topics. This week, reporters engaged students at the bustling Hendrix Student Center, posing the question: “How comfortable are you with integrating AI tools like ChatGPT into your coursework?”

Responses varied, but a common theme emerged: while students recognize AI’s potential benefits, there are concerns about its misuse. Mia Yancey, a junior in computer science, found AI useful for study aids but warned it could hinder critical thinking. Hazel Torek, a double major in math and computer science, noted its growing relevance but highlighted ethical concerns. Tayler Johnson, a sophomore in performing arts and political science, acknowledged AI’s usefulness for outlining, emphasizing responsible use. Natalie Hudepohl, a nursing sophomore, viewed AI primarily as a study tool but expressed worries about irresponsible usage. Overall, students advocate for responsible integration of AI in academic settings.
