Babydoll Archi: The Viral AI Controversy
Indian Instagram sensation Babydoll Archi gained 1.4 million followers in days, fueled by a seductive video in a red sari and a photo with adult star Kendra Lust. However, the account, which gained immense traction from April 2023, was fabricated. Its creator, Pratim Bora, used AI technology to morph photos of a homemaker named Sanchi from Dibrugarh. Following a police complaint by Sanchi’s family, authorities arrested Bora, who reportedly monetized the account, earning over 1 million rupees. Sanchi, unaware of the fake profile until media attention, is now receiving counseling. Experts highlight the challenges of preventing such incidents, emphasizing that AI-driven deepfakes can exacerbate issues of revenge-driven harassment. The case has sparked calls for stricter laws against cybercrime and the responsible use of AI technology. Bora faces charges that could lead to a prison sentence of up to 10 years upon conviction.
