GoTo and Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison have launched an upgraded version of Sahabat-AI, a 70-billion parameter open-source Large Language Model, enhancing Indonesia’s digital sovereignty. This development follows the initial Sahabat-AI introduction during Indosat’s Indonesia AI Day in November 2024. The new model powers a multilingual chat service accessible on sahabat-ai.com and within the GoPay app, enabling users to receive accurate, natural-language responses in five local languages, including Bahasa Indonesia, and several international languages. The model is optimized for local infrastructure, allowing various users—from startups to public institutions—to harness AI in their operations. Leaders from both companies, including GoTo’s CEO Patrick Walujo, emphasized Sahabat-AI’s role in fostering a uniquely Indonesian AI ecosystem, while Indosat’s Vikram Sinha highlighted the initiative’s aim to develop a secure, culturally relevant, and equitable digital foundation for the nation.
