Innovative Tools Challenge AI Training on Copyrighted Music

Last month, The Velvet Sundown gained traction on Spotify, showcasing ’70s rock vibes through AI-generated music and surreal promotional imagery. As synthetic music improves, concerns grow among artists about their original works potentially being exploited to train AI models. In response, researchers have developed MusicShield, a groundbreaking tool designed to protect musicians’ rights. By embedding imperceptible digital artifacts into original songs, MusicShield prevents AI bots from using or modifying these tracks. Jian Liu, an associate professor at the University of Georgia, leads this initiative and plans to launch a beta version in September. Speaking with “Marketplace Tech,” Liu emphasizes the importance of safeguarding artistic integrity in the age of generative AI. Visit our page for more updates on MusicShield and how it aims to secure musicians’ creations against AI threats. Protect your art; stay tuned for the MusicShield beta launch!
