Integrating AI Literacy and UTAUT Constructs: Structural Equation Modeling of AI Adoption Among Chinese University Students

This literature review examines the intersection of AI literacy and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) to explore their impact on AI adoption in educational settings. AI literacy is defined as a multidimensional framework, encompassing knowledge, practical skills, critical evaluation, and ethical awareness. Key frameworks, including the ED-AI Lit framework and models for K–12 education, advocate for a comprehensive approach to integrating AI literacy into curricula. The UTAUT model identifies critical factors influencing technology adoption, such as Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectancy, Social Influence, and Facilitating Conditions. The review highlights significant research gaps, emphasizing the need to link AI literacy with behavioral models. This study proposes to integrate AI literacy into the UTAUT model, establishing a framework for better understanding how these constructs shape behavioral intentions towards AI tools among Chinese university students, ultimately enhancing educational strategies in an AI-driven world.
