Introducing a New Minor in Artificial Intelligence for All W&M Undergraduates – W&M News

William & Mary has launched a new minor in artificial intelligence (AI), aimed at equipping students with essential skills to integrate AI into various fields. Offered through the School of Computing, Data Sciences, and Physics, this innovative program emphasizes technical proficiency alongside ethical considerations and interdisciplinary applications. Doug Schmidt, the school’s dean, highlighted AI’s transformative impact across disciplines such as art, law, and business. The curriculum combines hands-on experience with AI systems and critical discussions on privacy, equity, and the societal implications of AI. Tucker Peters, president of the W&M AI Club, noted the importance of this minor for all majors, enabling students to merge liberal arts education with technology. Designed to be adaptable, the program will continuously update its content, preparing graduates to lead in AI-driven industries. Future academic pathways may include B.A. and B.S. degrees in AI.
