Mumbai is taking innovative steps to tackle illegal immigration, akin to the initiatives in the U.S. and under President Donald Trump. Maharashtra is developing an AI tool designed to identify illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants, in collaboration with IIT Bombay. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the tool currently operates with 60% accuracy, with a goal to reach 100% in four months. He addressed concerns regarding Bangladeshi immigrants in Mumbai allegedly using forged documents to access government benefits and confirmed the significant number of deportations from the city. Fadnavis explained the typical method of entry: immigrants often arrive in West Bengal, obtain counterfeit documentation, and then travel to various parts of India to exploit government schemes. This proactive approach highlights the state’s commitment to immigration control and safeguarding public resources. By combining technology and intelligence, Maharashtra aims to enhance efficiency in managing illegal immigration effectively.
