OpenAI has introduced the international Edu for Countries initiative, with Kazakhstan as the first Central Asian participant alongside Estonia, Singapore, the UAE, Jordan, and Greece. This project aligns with Kazakhstan’s education and digital transformation goals, following a 2025 memorandum signed during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s US visit. The initiative aims to integrate ChatGPT Edu, an AI-driven educational tool, into national systems, enhancing rather than replacing educators.
Kazakhstan will receive 165,000 free licenses for educators to reduce administrative burdens and promote personalized learning. The program supports teachers in creating lesson materials and assessments while ensuring that all grading remains the responsibility of educators. Regular training will commence in January 2026 to guarantee effective use of ChatGPT Edu, fostering innovation in education. This strategic move underscores Kazakhstan’s vision to empower educators and cultivate a rich digital learning environment in line with national education standards.
