Amazon has introduced a groundbreaking feature to its Kindle app on iOS, called “Ask This Book,” currently available only in the U.S. This innovative tool leverages artificial intelligence as an “expert reading assistant,” allowing users to highlight text and pose questions about plot, character relationships, and themes. Importantly, responses are spoiler-free, providing insights up to the reader’s current position. The chatbot functionality is automatically integrated into books, without options for authors to decline.
According to Amazon, the feature enables readers who have purchased or borrowed a book to access factual, non-shareable answers directly within the app. To utilize “Ask This Book,” users can select text and tap “Ask” from a contextual menu. At present, the feature is limited to English-language books, with plans to roll it out to Kindle devices and Android OS in the following year. This enhancement aims to elevate users’ reading experiences significantly.
