Leveraging AI to Propel Translational Research and Maximize Impact

In July, HEPI hosted a roundtable dinner in partnership with Taylor & Francis to explore the role of AI in advancing translational research. Key discussions centered around transforming curiosity-driven research into real-world applications, emphasizing collaboration across disciplines. AI holds significant potential for analyzing large datasets efficiently, improving accessibility to scientific knowledge, and creating diverse formats for research dissemination. However, ethical concerns were raised, including biases in AI, transparency in data usage, and accountability in the event of failures. A guide by UKRIO highlighted essential questions researchers should consider regarding data ownership. The roundtable underscored the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation and education, advocating for a shared responsibility for AI’s ethical implications rather than placing the burden solely on researchers. As AI’s role in research evolves, it is crucial to establish robust regulatory frameworks, ensuring that AI serves societal needs while fostering creativity and critical thinking among researchers.
