Researchers have uncovered over 150 YouTube channels disseminating anti-Labour misinformation, amassing over a billion views this year. This study by Reset Tech reveals that these channels generated more than 56,000 videos and gained 5.3 million subscribers, emphasizing a troubling trend in the UK political landscape. Utilizing alarmist language and AI-generated content, many videos frequently mentioned Labour leader Keir Starmer, associating him with fabricated narratives of political turmoil. Reset Tech points to this phenomenon as part of a broader global trend where creators leverage cheap AI tools for profit. While similar networks exist across Europe, UK channels primarily involve local creators aiming for advertising revenue. Following the investigation, YouTube has since removed these channels for violating its spam and deceptive practices policy. Labour officials expressed concern over the dangers of synthetic misinformation, urging social media platforms to enhance moderation efforts to safeguard democratic integrity.
