🔍 Important Update for LinkedIn Users: Data Utilization for AI Training
Starting November 3, 2025, LinkedIn will begin using profile details, public posts, and activity data from users in the UK, EU, Switzerland, Canada, and Hong Kong to train its AI models. Here’s what you need to know:
- Scope of Data: Profile information and public posts will inform AI developments; private messages remain excluded.
- Opt-Out Required: Users must actively choose to opt-out to prevent their data from being used. By default, you’re opted-in.
Risks Involved:
- Enhanced risks of automated spear-phishing attacks could arise with more credible, context-rich data available to malicious actors.
What to Do:
- Visit Settings > Privacy > Data Privacy to toggle “Data for Generative AI Improvement” to Off.
- Also adjust advertising settings to control data sharing across Microsoft.
For organizations, this is a critical time to revisit social media policies and educate staff on data sharing risks.
