Local Processing for Google Gemini 2.5 Flash Set to Launch in India

Google recently unveiled at its I/O event in Bengaluru that its Gemini 2.5 Flash AI model will be processed locally in India, ensuring low-latency and cost efficiency while eliminating cross-border data transfers. This high-performance model, accessible via Single Zone Provisioned Throughput in Google Cloud regions, supports critical sectors such as healthcare, banking, finance, and public services, adhering to data residency standards. Developers praise Gemini 2.5 Flash for its exceptional performance-to-cost ratio, making it one of the fastest AI solutions available. Google operates data centers in Mumbai and Delhi, with plans for expansion in Navi Mumbai, in line with India’s upcoming Digital Personal Data Protection Act. Meanwhile, OpenAI, a primary competitor, is establishing data centers in India and has launched a data residency program across Asia, allowing customers to keep data within the region. This strategic move reinforces both companies’ commitment to localized data management in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
