Under Speaker Om Birla’s leadership, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has launched digital initiatives to modernize parliamentary operations, enhancing transparency, inclusivity, and accessibility. These efforts were highlighted in a recent meeting, demonstrating a commitment to using technology for efficient governance. One key development allows members to mark their attendance via Multi-Media Devices (MMDs) at their seats, saving time and streamlining processes.
Additionally, AI tools are utilized to publish parliamentary business and agendas in 12 languages, accessible in real-time through the Digital Sansad portal. This improves multilingual access and transparency. The collaboration with Bhashini has led to an AI-driven tool for accurate, multilingual transcription of House proceedings.
These initiatives embody Speaker Birla’s vision for integrating technology into governance, notably with the Sansad Bhashini initiative launched in March, which includes AI translation, speech-to-text conversion, and an interactive chatbot, promoting accountability, efficiency, and linguistic diversity in parliamentary processes.
