The majority (82%) of these complaints were specifically regarding ChatGPT, while 12% pertained to the website and 6% to the app. OpenAI acknowledged the outage on their service status page, revealing high error rates and ongoing investigations into the issue’s cause. This incident marks the second major outage in July, raising concerns among users and developers who rely on these AI tools.
For those affected during the downtime, several alternatives are available, including Claude (Anthropic), Gemini (Google), Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity AI, and YouChat (You.com). Users are advised to monitor OpenAI’s status page and DownDetector for updates and avoid repeated login attempts to prevent account locking.
