Prominent Silicon Valley figures, including angel investor Jason Calacanis and Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, are shifting from OpenAI’s ChatGPT to alternatives like Google’s Gemini 3, Anthropic’s Claude, and Elon Musk’s xAI. Calacanis recently canceled his firm’s $10,000 annual subscription to OpenAI due to performance stagnation and concerns over corporate data security, stating that “ChatGPT isn’t keeping up” and naming it the fourth option in AI chatbots. He praised competitors for their specialized capabilities: xAI for real-time data, Gemini for travel and YouTube integration, and Claude for handling corporate workflows. Following a trial run of Gemini 3, Benioff expressed a strong preference for it over ChatGPT, citing significant improvements in reasoning, speed, and multimodal functionalities. This trend signifies a volatile period in the AI landscape, as traditional leaders face increasing competition from emerging solutions.
