Key Findings:
- Malicious Fork: The forked repository rewrote my original documentation, creating a deceptive installer download page.
- Red Flags: The revamped README mimicked a product landing page, misleading users into downloading harmful software.
- SEO Hijacking: Attackers targeted high-value keywords like “oauth,” “jwt,” and “enterprise-ai,” preying on developers integrating AI.
The Trust Issue:
- GitHub’s fork model masks the true identity of contributors, blurring lines between genuine collaboration and malicious impersonation.
- The trust model in open-source software is failing as attackers exploit it for social engineering.
