At a national conference in New Delhi, Power Minister Manohar Lal emphasized the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in the power distribution sector. Highlighting their role in creating intelligent, consumer-centric networks, he described applications like smart meter analytics, predictive maintenance, and automated outage predictions as key to enhancing consumer experiences and operational efficiency. Lal praised the collaboration among industry leaders, states, and technology partners and advocated for strong stakeholder engagement to build smart distribution systems. Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal reiterated the ministry’s commitment to digitalization and the importance of secure data sharing for scaling innovations nationwide. The conference received 195 applications as part of a national innovation call, with notable winners recognized, including TNPDCL and Tata Power. Additionally, Lal launched the STELLAR initiative by the Central Electricity Authority aimed at long-term load adequacy studies, underscoring the ongoing energy transition in India.
