Mark Zuckerberg Appoints OpenAI Veteran Shengjia Zhao as Chief Scientist of Meta Superintelligence Labs – Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META)

Meta Platforms Inc. (META) has appointed Shengjia Zhao, a former OpenAI researcher, as Chief Scientist of its newly established Superintelligence Labs. Announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Threads, Zhao co-founded the lab and has been integral since its inception. Zhao’s prior work includes significant contributions to OpenAI’s advances with ChatGPT and GPT-4. At Meta Superintelligence Labs, he will operate under Alexandr Wang, former CEO of Scale AI. The lab is set to benefit from Meta’s substantial investment, including access to a 1-gigawatt cloud computing cluster named Prometheus by 2026. Meta is enhancing its AI capabilities with Zhao joining Yann LeCun at FAIR, the long-term research hub. Despite a 0.30% dip in shares on Friday, META showed resilience with a 0.16% increase in after-hours trading. As Meta continues to scale its AI efforts, coordination among its divisions remains a focal point.
