Maryland Graduates Launch AI Tool to Enhance Case Study Responses

University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business has introduced STRATPATH, a generative AI tool that enhances case study learning and critical thinking for business students. The initiative, led by professor Nicole Coomber and a team of recent graduates, addresses the challenges posed by traditional assignments in the ChatGPT era, where students often bypass the learning process by relying on AI-generated responses. STRATPATH not only administers faculty-designed case studies but also provides instant feedback, fostering deeper engagement and spontaneous thinking. The platform prevents academic dishonesty by ensuring students articulate their thought processes, thus improving critical thinking skills over time. Feedback indicates students feel better prepared for job interviews, reinforcing STRATPATH’s effectiveness as a career readiness tool. Future plans include potential collaboration with the campus career center and enhancements that integrate additional faculty resources. As STRATPATH aims to evolve, it seeks funding opportunities to scale implementation and potentially license the tool beyond the university.
