The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), in collaboration with G42, has launched K2 Think, an innovative open-source AI model with 32 billion parameters, aiming to position the UAE as a leader in artificial intelligence. This model addresses complex reasoning tasks efficiently, performing comparably to larger models from OpenAI and DeepSeek while being more cost-effective and faster. MBZUAI President, Prof. Eric Xing, highlighted K2 Think’s ability to deliver results without relying on extensive infrastructure. As part of UAE’s National AI Strategy 2031, this development showcases the nation’s growing technological capabilities, enabling businesses across sectors like logistics and finance to leverage AI for multiple applications. Notably, K2 Think’s open-source nature allows for complete transparency and reproducibility, fostering collaboration within the AI research community. This marks a significant step toward smarter, not just larger, AI systems, aligning with future innovations in healthcare and other fields.
