Meet Vijaye Raji: The Indian-Origin Founder Who Sold His Startup to OpenAI for $1.1 Billion

OpenAI has acquired product testing startup Statsig for approximately $1.1 billion in an all-stock deal. Following the acquisition, Statsig’s founder and CEO, Vijaye Raji, will take on the role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Applications at OpenAI, reporting to CEO Fidji Simo. Raji brings over a decade of experience in consumer engineering, having previously worked at Microsoft and Meta. Founded four-and-a-half years ago, Statsig is recognized as a leading experimentation platform in the industry. Raji, an Indian-origin entrepreneur, expressed enthusiasm for joining OpenAI, emphasizing his commitment to advancing AI to address real-world challenges. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Pondicherry University and has a rich background in software development, previously contributing to major projects like Windows frameworks and Facebook’s gaming initiatives. Post-acquisition, Statsig will continue operating independently while integrating into OpenAI’s mission to enhance software development.
